The Mbora Water Project is a community water development initiative in South West Nyakach, Nyakach Sub-County, Kisumu County, established to improve access to safe and reliable water for the local community.
The project was designed to address the challenge of limited access to potable water, where community members had been relying on unprotected water sources. The planned solution combines groundwater development with renewable energy and elevated water storage.
The Mbora Water Project represents more than the construction of water infrastructure. It is an investment in:
The project comprises a borehole equipped with a solar-powered water pumping system, an elevated water storage tank and a communal water point. This integrated approach provides a practical way of abstracting groundwater, storing it and making it accessible to the community.
The project was estimated at KSh 4 million and was expected to benefit approximately 350 households upon completion.
AQUAVIEW Engineering Kenya Ltd was responsible for the supply, installation, testing, commissioning, and technical support of the hybrid solar-powered water pumping system for the Mbora Water Project in Nyakach Sub-County, Kisumu County.
The scope included:
In short: AQUAVIEW served as the technical implementation partner responsible for delivering and commissioning the project’s hybrid solar-powered water pumping solution, from equipment supply through installation, testing, commissioning and post-installation technical support.

Aquaview Engineering Kenya Limited was contracted to deliver a sustainable and climate-resilient water supply solution for St. Mary’s Ukwala High School in Siaya County. To resolve perennial water shortages that adversely affected learning, sanitation, and student welfare, Aquaview executed an end-to-end borehole development and solar-powered pumping installation.
Hydrogeological Survey
Executed a hydrogeological site assessment to pinpoint the optimal drilling location for high yield and long-term groundwater sustainability.
Borehole Drilling
Successfully drilled to a depth of 110 meters using heavy-duty rotary drilling equipment suitable for the local geology.
Well Construction & Casing
Lined the borehole with high-grade, corrosion-resistant PVC casings to secure structural stability and protect water quality.
Installed a graded gravel pack to optimize filtration and prevent sand/silt intrusion.
Test Pumping & Yield Determination
Conducted step-drawdown and constant-rate test pumping procedures to evaluate well performance.
Established a sustainable yield of 5 m^3/hour}, adequately covering the daily requirements of the institution.
Water Quality Analysis
Performed full physicochemical and bacteriological laboratory testing at an accredited facility.
Verified complete compliance with WHO and KEBS drinking water standards.
